I`ve found myself thinking back to the good old days in Manchester when i was pretending to be an affected student! We had some amazing experiences and didn`t even have any money at the time and now i look back and haven`t a clue how we managed it. Wilmslow Road was a favourite haunt and there were some good Irish bars round there......and Platt Fields too and southern Cem.....a we used to hang around convinced that Morrissey really did too!

Haven`t been back for a long time now - everything has changed so much - although The Mancunian Way is still as grotty as ever - and wonderful for being so....but my life now reflects the Take That choice of music which i listen too..... *sigh*

I`m ashamed to say i haven`t heard of John Cooper Clarke. Is that bad.....?

I'm good Sian, I was dissapoiinted to see Roadhouse passed away, I went on something of a trip back in time on the back of his life and memory tonight.
Last time I saw anything about him was when I saw an Oasis video here in Taipei and they had the front of the shop up there on TV drawn in cartoon form.
It still looked like a Belfast police station boarded up with fences in the midst of the troubles.
I had a girlfriend then when I was there who I saw daily who worked a few doors down the road at what was then called:
On the Eighth day macrobiotic restraunt.You should hear the story of Mike Slaughter and the fire at the original shops that were located at the spot where the Arndale Center was built.
For a year I spent a lot of time waiting outside Johnnie's shop.
He was a stand up guy but at the time his wife, shall we say, she drove a hard bargain.
I used to spend hours waiting for her to go out to buy some fags or an evening paper so I could get paid from Johnny who always did the best he could by everybody.

I can just imagine those Gallagher lads stood in Johnnies' shop at Ten in the morning when he opened the door and them wearing wet jackets with greasy hair and cans of Tennants in their hands shouting at him about how he was ripping them off.
By the time they showed up I was long gone.
Johnny Roadhouse was in the words of the Gallaghers "a sound guy and a Top Man."

Regarding my Mothers flippout I still find it hard to believe that she refused to admit what was fact to herself.
She passed away fifteen years ago so that's gone.
I think about you a lot Sian, I'm sure things will work out for you and i'm on your side I spent years going under the Mancunian way. I don't know what it looks like now but then after you left the library driving on the way to johnnies shop it looked like a bomb site.
Some of my fondest memories have been left behind in Manchester, I saw you're a Take That fan.
The greatest people who came out of Manchester when I was there were Tony Wilson and John Cooper Clarke.
I met Johnny, he won't remember me, he won't remember himself from the eighties but you should ask about him.
Wilson at the time was refered to as Mr Manchester but Johnny Clarke was the real deal.
John Cooper Clarke is the poet laureat of Manchester.

I`ve been on the receiving end of an affair...so perhaps your mum blocked it from her mind to preserve her sanity, after all she had a nervous breakdown didn`t she? I can fully understand and empathise with that completely....

Four kids are no problem :)) Its the husband that causes the hardwork and angst.....

How are you anyway? Sorry i`ve only just replied.....been looking in my friends posts for another of yours and didn`t think to check here to see if you had replied to my comment! :roll:

I thought about the fact that if we blot out something we'll never know we've done it and perhaps we all do that.

The guy, he was just frustrating and I suspect that after six months he'd given up on the pair and thier daughter and decided it had never happened.
My mother, that was a different story, downright creepy to see her deny she had ever heard of a woman who she was close to for most of her adult life. She was very convincing as well.

Good to see you back.
The thing I wonder about you is how you cope with four kids? My one keeps me busy.

Do you have an older one who helps you out?

Mmmmm things are okay...there`s a bit about it on my blog....but everything is pretty much okay really - thank you for asking :)

I`m intrigued by your post cos it`s really got me thinking about something.

I could never block something out of my memory as if it never existed either....but then what if i have and i can`t remember? :crazy:

Seriously though - will have a think about this one......what if you suspect someone of lying to you in the past, or of keeping something from you and then when you ask them about the incident they deny it? How would you know if your suspicions were correct or not? Say you`d hit the nail on the head but they denied it cos they had erased it from their memory?

Oh i could write an essay about this....lol....will get back to you if that`s okay?

I'll be sending out some sumissions to publishers, first I have to find one's who may be interested in my particular style of writing, agents are another way to go, its a minefield Sian, and also the royalties they pay are tiny, a good publisher will push the book but only a fraction make serious money.
I read some publishers proccess of screening books and they tell you to be prepared to wait six months before they get back to you due to the massive number of submissions they receive. So I guess ill wait for them to get back.
If they don't pick it up, ill put it out myself, I know an American outfit who can put it out through Amazon so one way or another it will be out.
I'm glad you enjoyed this, the book is wonderful, at the moment that's the reward for writing it and believe me Sian it's very satisfying to have it in my hands.

It's good to know there's somebody who can get to the end.

After you sent me the first message, when I began the story of the Nottingham kid, I knew you were reading it so I thought about you often when I was writing It. As far as I know, your the only person who'se read it.

Thanks, I'm adding some more later, it's another story about selling my holiday, this time to a young kid from Nottingham who bought an Indian trip of mine in Delhi in the late eighties.
